When an AI answer doesn't mention you, it mentions someone else. The competitor table shows who.
Where the names come from
The competitor list is not a directory we maintain — it is extracted from the actual AI answers in your scan. Every brand name the AI recommended in response to your buyer questions is collected, normalized (deduplicating spelling variants), and counted.
For each competitor you see:
- how many answers mentioned them, next to your own count
- which questions they won
- how their presence trends over time (with monitoring)
How to read it
- Recurring names are the real competition. A brand that appears across many questions and channels is what AI systems consider the default answer in your category. That is your benchmark.
- One-off mentions are noise. A name that appears once may be a hallucination or a marginal player. Don't overreact to it.
- Unexpected names are intelligence. Businesses you never considered competitors may dominate AI answers because their content is more legible to models. Look at what they publish — structured comparison pages, FAQs, consistent name/address/phone data — and close the gap.
Common questions
Why does a directory or portal site appear as a "competitor"? AI answers often recommend aggregators (e.g. booking platforms, "top 10" listicles). They compete with you for the recommendation slot, so we count them. Getting listed on those aggregators is often the fastest visibility win.
A competitor's name is misspelled or duplicated. Extraction normalizes common variants, but unusual spellings can slip through. The counts still reflect what the AI actually said.
Can I track a specific competitor over time? Yes — with monitoring, the share-of-voice view tracks your top competitors scan over scan (details).
